Greeting and Salutations!
Last month we showed you our finished press kit, and since sharing it with you we have been using it to reach out to as many different media outlets as to increase our visibility and awareness of our project. We had some success and a few articles were written about Dragon of Legends, but the biggest accomplishment we had this past month was getting in contact with the organizers of the Square Enix Indie Collective and getting our pitch showcased on their platform.
The Square Enix Indie Collective is a platform where pitches are submitted to a website, and the community is asked to vote if they would or wouldn’t support a project on a crowdfunding service. This portion of the service is known as the “feedback phase” and it is 100% free, but if a project receives a substantial amount of votes and interest at this stage Square Enix may offer up their PR contacts and mailing lists to further support the project through a crowdfunding campaign for a small percentage of the net gains.
Why is this so important?
Making video games requires a lot of money, and that is especially true about our very ambitious project. An unknown indie development team like us trying to make a splash in the global video game industry is no easy task, that’s why we are so thankful that services like this exist.
We have been marketing Dragon of Legends by ourselves thus far, and it has proved to be one of the harder aspects of game development. Making a product is one thing, getting people to care about it is an entirely different story.
Joining up with Square Enix would be the smartest move we could make as it opens up an abundance of untapped contacts that will help push our Kickstarter campaign to the next level, and it would significantly increase our chances of success on the crowdfunding platform.
The concept for the Collective platform is quite new, it was first introduced in 2013, and there have only been a handful of success stories so far. Currently there are no other products with the amount of features and quality that we are bringing to the table, so it is the ideal time to release something on their service before the platform gets oversaturated or considered passe by the public.
